Re: 1/48 Hobby Boss A-6E Intruder
Got the intakes glued in last night. Lots of very small trimming work with the microchisel and sanding sticks to clear away plastic and resin interfering with proper fit. They fit well...but they aren't quite drop-fit. http://doogsmodels.smugmug.com/48Aircraft/148-Hobby-Boss-A6E-Intruder/i-P6TFbf5/0...

Re: 1/48 Hobby Boss A-6E Intruder
Paint on the intakes! After masking off the intake trunks (and spraying some white on the outside of the intake to give a bit more opacity), I primed them with Mr. Surfacer 1500 http://doogsmodels.smugmug.com/48Aircraft/148-Hobby-Boss-A6E-Intruder/i-hrcp8mH/0/X2/IMG_20140710_001917-X2.jpg And then M...

Re: "Tojo Eats S***!" - 1/32 Tamiya F4U-1 Corsair
Forgot to paint some of the oil cooler bits, so had to do that last night. In the meantime I went ahead and did a test-fit of the wings. Still missing a few minor internals that look like they'll provide an even more positive fit, but still...this kind of alignment is no small thing to pull off. htt...

Re: Eduard kits
Second what Matt said on Eduard's MiG-21 kits. Heidi had a blast building this kit and it came out just beautiful. Hint: leave the Brassin engine set. It is this deep inside the fuselage it's just wasted money IMHO. The cockpit and gearbay sets are gorgeous, though. I have a set of the bronze gear ...

Re: What is dry brushing?
Drybrushing is an older technique used to enhance raised and edge detail, or to weather surfaces. Drybrushing involves loading a brush with the barest amount of paint possible. I get to this state by first wiping a paint-loaded brush on some fabric to get most if the paint off, then on post-it notes...

Re: What is a "wash" versus "pin" or "dot" shading?
To offer a few definitions: Wash - Heavily thinned paint - often oil-based - that is applied over paint for weathering or definition. There are many different kinds of washes. Filter washes. Sludge washes. Pin washes. Filter Wash - Heavily thinned paint applied over a broad area to slightly modulate...

Re: "Tojo Eats S***!" - 1/32 Tamiya F4U-1 Corsair
Gear bays! Again, more shaking my head in wonder at the engineering of the Tamiya Corsair. There are a lot of parts that go into the "center wing" assembly. And they all interlock and fit very well. Then the top inner wings come down on top and literally lock in place. Very impressive. For...

Re: 1/48 Hobby Boss A-6E Intruder
Thinking I might have to paint the lip, then mask that, then shoot some white down the intake trunk. Not sure how else to keep it uniform without going crazy!LyleW wrote:Good luck on the masking.

Re: "Tojo Eats S***!" - 1/32 Tamiya F4U-1 Corsair
Solid progress tonight. The fuselage is together. Tail and stabs are built up but haven't been attached yet (I want to do some cleanup on the leading edges). Starting work on the lower wing assembly. http://doogsmodels.smugmug.com/32ScaleAircraft/132-Tamiya-F4U1-Corsair/i-CnN9XkM/0/X2/Tamiya%20F4U-1...

I would love to see a Black Panthers movie - provided it's better done than Red Tails!
