I’d say that it does check all the boxes.

I am doing some more research on this bird. And the information is sketchy.
Most sources say it is yellow tailed red 6. But according to ICM it is a white tailed red six.
And some sources say it is an aircraft 72 IAP from the North Fleet airforce based at Vaenga. But other state it is from the 8 IAP based at Sebastopol (because there are apparently no mountains a Vaenga but there are at Sebastopol, see the second picture). So it is all a bit vague and I will have to make some judgment calls on this. I did find a few very nice pictures of the specific aircraft.

I can leave the gear doors off, need to make an antenna, no stores under the wing, use early red stars and a reflection gun sight (not a telescopic one).

Those have graceful lines!

More research: there are a few flaws in the kit. Some are easy fixes (no panel line on the right side of the rudder ) others will take a bit more work. Most glaringly the lack of exhaust pipes, such a prominent feature of these aircraft. There is a very good article on Hyperscale that documents everything.

I started some preliminary work. I made a pattern for a better seat using parts of the I-153, a I-16, PE buckles and stretched sprue. I also made a pattern for exhaust pipes. I am going to cast these in resin.

I also worked on the fuselage: opened up a few holes, made a rudder line on the right side (ICM forgot that!) and a hole in the rudder where a bar needs to come.
