I re-read my post and towards the end I sounded a little needy. That was not my intent, but perhaps in a Freudian way maybe a little. When you bust your ass on a project and it ends up as this fantastic miniature that really shines you half expect the world to take some notice. I believe I post for vanity as much as anything. Lying to myself about it neither changes it or covers the true intent up. At the same time it's all a vanity project in some ways. By saying "Look at what I made", you are essentially shining a light on yourself and your accomplishment, so vanity or ego plays some part in that. There are builders on MCM that post rather poorly built things of all stripes. I used to give encouragement where I could and offer advice where I could. I myself am far from some flawless builder and am always looking to improve. It's when I see the same quality being pumped out build after build that I get discouraged about helping. Lyle needed help with Foil. I offered my help and I know he took it to heart in the spirit it was meant. He improved almost immediately, maybe not from anything I said but the overall vibe from all who posted was uplifting to him.
Had I tried that on MCM not only would the know it all's chime in, but there might be cries of "thread hijack" or worse. I once called David Thibadeau's 1/16 scale Pro Mod Charger ugly. This is an award winning first class model builder mind you. To my eyes it was plain ugly as a drag car and design and I said so. It's not like he designed it, but he did choose it. From that day on I think it got weird. I had criticized King David's build and the wrath was upon me. I could give a hoot and the thread eventually ran out of steam like most of his stuff. It starts great and eventually fades as he loses interest in posting. I know he finished it because I've seen pics of it. It's a Masterpiece of scratchbuilding and detail. And you know what? It's still an ugly car! But that's my opinion and goes no further than that. If you say something that I've done is not quite right or is just plain ugly I can handle it. I will offer rebuttal such as it may be, but I'll be able to handle it. In David's defense he handled it very well, it was the rest of the members who didn't do so well.
It's much looser here. I can be me without worries. That is HUGE in my book.

Well said Dragline, one reason I post my stuff is I want the flaws pointed out, what can I improve on in the future that isn't obvious to me now.

Let your weapons slash and tear This is no place for fear
Hold the lines! Move as one! In unity our victory's won
Our shields will form a mighty wall
United we shall never fall

I like it WAY better here cause we're all honest about each others builds without getting butt hurt over it.Floki wrote:Well said Dragline, one reason I post my stuff is I want the flaws pointed out, what can I improve on in the future that isn't obvious to me now.

Re: Banned again....
Dragline, you said it well.
I have never been banned from FSM, or required to submit to moderation. I for one just stopped posting over there because nobody commented on my work or acknowledged any of my efforts or finished models. My Maddog Manufacturing threads were ignored almost completely; the only people who posted on it there are now here posting on it! While the compliments and comments are motivating, I also appreciate those posts that help me see where I can improve, or fix something I didn't see. I never got an of that at FSM. I bet I could post my 807-piece armor collection pics there and nobody would comment! After all, FSM Magazine was at two Nationals where my entire collection was displayed. Yet, not a single mention of it happened in any of their issues; they never even came by to look at it even though they knew it was there. I know this because a number of people told me that they went by their photography booth to suggest they go get pics and write up an article about it. Several came back to ask if they had and of course; they hadn't. If they can't be bothered to notice any modeler's work or efforts like that, then it's no wonder their Forums reflect that kind of mentality.
I did enjoy the group builds over there, especially the One True Scale and being a part of the Monogram Mafia, but overall, it's just not worth it anymore. Like others, I have found their Forum system to be difficult to log in and participate on as well, which only contributes to squelching the desire to ever go back. I can agree with Carlos; their mag is almost a joke now; repeating the same "How to's" and always showing these intensely complicated builds with all the latest bells and whistles added to make everything more complicated. I think they could improve tremendously if they actually reported on Modelers who truly enjoy the Hobby, do tremendously masterful work even without all the bells and whistles, and who's joy and enthusiasm for the hobby shows in their work. I remember hearing so many stories of many modelers at Nationals events that never even make it into their mag; like the guy who scratch built a Mercury Redstone rocket; complete with a full interior.... all with only one hand since he'd broken his arm at the beginning of the build! Or the other guy who modified a 1/350 scale aircraft carrier to depict the ship his father served on.... even replicating his father's plane markings on the deck. Or even that crazy guy who built 750 Braille Scale military vehicles over the course of his lifetime and kept them all these years to put on display. Wow, was that guy a lunatic or what? No stories like those ever make it into their mag and that's why it's not worth subscribing to; and that's why their Forums reflect that.
Anyway, enjoy your banned status.
And Lyle, you are right, we are a bunch of troublemakers, that's why we have such fun here!

For all these and many other reasons, I will stay here and enjoy what is left of my existence.
