Eduard 1/48 Ki-115 Tsurugi

Post by BorgR3mc0 »

Another current project. It is a 1/48 Eduard Ki-115 Tsurugi, a Japanese suicide plane. This kit is interesting because it is the first CAD/CAM mould made by Eduard. They chose this plane because of its simple plan from. This kit is a bit rough around the edges but the fit is actually nice.

First step: a lot of black base, the cockpit is going to be wood.
And I also did the radial engine.

Quite the interesting subject! Looking good.

You’re off to a fine start! The engine came out great. I imagine that the cockpit will be pretty spartan with only the basic necessities in there.

Very interesting. I'd never heard of this aircraft before and I had to go and look it up on Google.

You're off to a great start Borg!

Indeed an interesting kit! It is from 2004, was not aware of this being Eduards first own CAD production!

I took a look at the instructions (on Scalemates.com) and seems to be a nice kit of a very special subject!

And yes, the engine looks very nice!

It was definitely very spartan. A lot of wood in the cockpit, even for the control stick and several levers. The fuselage was iron sheeting and the wings aluminium over wood. The control surfaces where fabric covered. So while you will see them modelled and profiled with all aluminium it actually has some interesting surface textures.

Some different wood colours for the cockpit.

Made some good progress on the Ki-115. I painted the interior of the fuselage with Lifecolor metallic for the stainless steel color. I thinned it with Future. I have done this before but this time it didn’t really work that good. My airbrush clogged so I had to stop and clean it. I even gave it a session in the ultrasonic cleaner to get everything properly clean.
Fortunately all the painting was done before the clogging. So I moved on and closed the fuselage. There are some gaps at the wing/fuselage attachment so that is going to need some putty.

I also sorted and prepped all the other pieces. I am going to try to first paint and then assemble.

Looking good! My experience with life color was if it was a new jar it sprayed wonderfully but if it was opened the paint would clog the airbrush.

Let your weapons slash and tear This is no place for fear
Hold the lines! Move as one! In unity our victory's won
Our shields will form a mighty wall
United we shall never fall

That might be the problem because I hadn’t used that paint in years.
