Heller 1/35 Somua S35, 18e Dragoons, May 1940

Post by Stikpusher »

This is the old Heller S35 kit originally released in 1977. I replaced the turret machine gun barrel with some Albion tubing, added cast armor texture with Mr Surfacer 1000, and a tow chain on the rear tow hook and shackles. Paints are Humbrol enamels.

Incredible work indeed Carlos! The figures look really good and the exhaust is fantastic.

Can't be a French WWII tank, It's going forwards and doesn't have a :whiteflag: hanging from the barrel... :hmm:

That's an excellent bit of work Carlos, the painting and weathering are superb and I really like those figures.

Cheers!

Bruce, Clint, and Stuart, thank you for your kind words.

Clint, I was worried about the exhaust until I hit it with that Tamiya weathering medium on the pipes. Some rust and soot nailed the look that I wanted.

Stuart, in May1940 it’s not that the French didn’t try. They were simply outfought. They took a serious amount of battlefield casualties of killed and wounded in that month. They lost approximately 90,000 KIA and 200,000 WIA during the campaign. I know that we all like to joke about it, but that’s not the sign of an army that surrendered without a fight.
The figures are Tamiya from the Renault UE Armored Carrier kit that I built years ago. Mostly they were for practice at working on figures.

Thanks Joe! This was one of those projects where ya start off not knowing where it’s gonna end up, and then at the end it’s “oh yeah!”.
