Academy 1/35 M151A1, 2nd ACR

Post by Stikpusher »

I built this as a quick project, with minor modifications, so as not to slow me down. I did not correct the rear suspension, which Academy molded as the A2 type, but then again, no one will see that on my display shelf. I painted in the 70’s era MASSTER scheme used in Europe by 7th Army units using Humbrol enamels. Markings are a mix of kit decals and decals from my decals drawer. I tried scratching up the antenna using telescoping brass to better replicate the tapered shape of those things, but it did not turn out as well as I wanted. Better luck next time I guess. The map case and medium ALICE pack are from my spare parts bins. All in all a fun little project.

The “A” on the front bumper is 12/97ths to large. Other than that, dang near perfect.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Wow - the final is stunning on this little kit Carlos. Really nice - and a camo scheme not often seen on these little guys. Well done. :shoutout:
Thanks,

Thanks John. I have more projects to come in this camo scheme. Time to bring back the 70s... except for the bad hair, bad clothes, and... But very cool camo worn in West Germany back then.

Start to finish, an excellent subject carried off with true finesse! Your radios are so good. Truly. And your photography is killer.

Isn't it funny how builds that start out as quick projects tend to snowball? This turned out great and looks like you put alot of time and effort into it Carlos. Excellent finish. :shoutout: :shoutout: :shoutout:

Tom, Bruce, Joe, and Kari, thanks to you one and all for your kind words on this project.

Bruce, these radios are good, but not killer. I did not add anything, just paint work. If I added the wiring and a hand mic, then it would get into the “killer” range.

Joe, I did my best not to let this one snowball. Had a few distractions and diversions that slowed me down a bit, but not from my overall end of the year goal.
