I used Tamiya’s “Craft series” of tools to scribe than cut off the circular resin plug. It was late, and I was tired but also wired with coffee. Great result on the first engine; three to go—and I have to decide if this thread is going to go as well, since the model is the 1/48 version....

This is what I use to get rid of unwanted resin stubs.


The sawdust is more coarse than the fine particles that fly around when working with a motor tool. When it comes to sanding resin, always do it wet (the sanding tool, not you)! That's common knowledge around here, but you never know who's reading this lines.

Thanks so much about the advice about "working wet," hah, seriously though that I did not know and now that I know it makes so much sense. Since I had to cut such a large piece I took an old box, placed it at my feet on top of newspaper and then like an Okie farmer whittling a piece of scrap wood I seated myself down to saw that piece off...

I have exactly the same saw, using it primarily to remove delicate pieces from sprues, not to break them.
It is, despite of sort of a simple look, great tool!

I have this... looks similar but the handle is plastic. The blades remind me of Gillette Blue Blades my Dad used to use. It’s a great saw, but I need the Sabre shape to cut the large diameter of the pipe.

That is true. I have also a narrower saw for "tighter" spaces... sometimes this one is just too big to fit in tight spaces between parts (and sprue)

Thanks again, Kari! So many variables... even though the craft series saw by Tamiya has a serious drawback (a weak blade collar lock), the saw tooth and blade shape are perfect for cutting into the tube’s surface, and that is primary.
