That is a beauty! Such a good looking aircraft. It was a shame they lost one of the vehicles. It was pilot error....

As far as the loss due to pilot error goes, like the Black Hats in jump school kept telling us, “because the sky, like the sea, is unforgiving.”

There was a show on "Air Disasters" on Smithsonian that profiled the event. The co-pilot unlocked the tail booms too early for some reason. They concluded that the danger in that had not been clearly (only in a couple of old e-mails) presented, reinforced and hammered home. I think it was at Mach 1.8 when they should have been unlocked, they were unlocked at Mach 1.4.
