May give it a try with some scrap. ... it could work..
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Wow, this is a brilliant idea for replacing a canopy. I hadn't ever thought of doing this. Despite the paint-peeling lingo and the many efforts, this technique sure paid off. Way to go Jeremy!
