I often wondered how they changed tracks on tanks. I imagine it’s done the same way today?

BS, its done exactly the same today, i have done this same thing numerous times on my Warrior. Given how much else has changed over the last 70+ years, its amazing that no one has come up with a new design for tracks. Shows how good they are.

Carlos, its actually not that bad changing the track, the tank does all the work. I am just not sure how they got the combat tracks on and off the train.

Bish, I changed or repaired tracks more times than I care too remember. In the motor pool, or in the field, it was always a major chore.
Our method was different, using a soldier and some tool to walk the lead link of the track forward to the sprocket. No cables or ropes involved.

Our way was sort of a bit of both. We had to have a 3rd guy ready to lift the track over the top rollers, we used to have a track pin sticking out to lift it over. But most of the work was done by the sprocket.
