I think that the flamethrower gnome belongs near the front porch for all to see....

I agree. Obviously the flamethrower has a much shorter range than either the M2 or M-16 gnomes which are positioned in the back yard. Therefore, it would only make sense that the flamethrower gnome needs to be posted on the porch to root out our enemies which are creating siege positions in the front yard with their sappers.
