Stuart's Flying Dog

April 1, 2021 through 12/31/2021 - Anything from the Vietnam Era, aircraft, helos, trucks, boats, tanks, artillery, figures, dioramas....if it walks, crawls, rolls, rattles, flies, hovers or goes "boom", it is in. Any scale.

Stuart's Flying Dog

Post by Stuart »

So this'll be my first build for this GB - Airfix's 1/72 Cessna O-1 Brid Dog. This is a kit I've wanted to redo since I messed one up in the early 90's. The trouble is it's quite a rare kit now and pretty damn expensive for what it is - this one cost me £30-00!

(apologies for the poor box shots - these were taken off ebay. I'll post some better ones when I get the kit).

I can't decide yet whether or not this will be OOB or if I'll get the Pavla resin interior and flying controls for it. I've used Pavla resin cockpits before and I've never been impressed by them or their fit and have ending up tossing a few builds because of them - I will almost certainly need some AM decals though.

I've always loved the O-1 though, it's just one of those aircraft that, just like the 'UH-1', says Vietnam to me.

This is the Pavla Resin... We'll see. It'll turn it into a £60 model.

A classic Cessna! Neat. I may just have to do the O-2.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Very nice! But man, £30 for that little kit? What is that, fifteen times the original price? Anyways, nice choice of the “unsung hero” Bird Dog.

Man, it’s a good thing that I built my stash when and how I did... I couldn’t afford it now... :headslap:

Thanks for the interest Gents - I'm glad you liked the choice of subject.

The price of some of these older kits is indeed ridiculous - and normally I wouldn't pay anything like this amount for a old kit like this, but it's the cheapest I've been able to find for ages and I really fancy building one - so I had to just live with it. I do think I'll give the resin a miss though, and I'll just go with some scratch-building.

Cheers!
