USAF FAC OV-10A

April 1, 2021 through 12/31/2021 - Anything from the Vietnam Era, aircraft, helos, trucks, boats, tanks, artillery, figures, dioramas....if it walks, crawls, rolls, rattles, flies, hovers or goes "boom", it is in. Any scale.

USAF FAC OV-10A

Post by tempestjohnny »

Academy 1/72 kit. No pics yet. Only have pieces put together but.....KIT DECALS ARE HORRENDOUS

Ordered a set of AOA decals. Now these are nice. I believe there are 10 choices on markings all in ADC grey with different colors and markings on prop hubs. Still trying to decide which one.

I'm arming it with 2x 2.75" rocket pods and 2x 5" rocket pods. Any idea what color the tips if the rockets would be?
And what can I use to weight the nose. I usually use fishing weights but even my smallest 1/16oz weight is too big

Hmmm.... BBs perhaps?
As far as rocket tips, my guess is Insignia Red. Not 100% certain...

Rocket warheads are OD with a yellow band for HE, or light green with a red or yellow band for smoke or WP. Fuses at the tip of the warhead are bare metal.

The blue ones above are training/inert warheads

Some progress. Put some small washers in the nose and a fishing weight right behind the cockpit. Hopefully not a tailsitter.

Yeah... not a good spot for weights. Does the kit come with a clear sprue rod to hold up the rear? You can always construct one.

Yeah, looks it. I've done the Hasegawa one in 1/72 scale years ago. As you said, not a whole lot of room for weights in the nose. Mine came with a clear sprue rod for the tail wing or boom area.
