New tools for the bench DSPIAE

Post by kahunaminor »

These arrived today from Hobby Easy in HK. We were discussing the good and bad of sprue cutters on one of the build logs. I had seen these reviewed on a couple of websites, with positive comments generally forthcoming. I had put them off because they seemed prohibitively expensive under the € but were more reasonably priced from HK. Anyway they arrived in quick order with a new drill set to boot.

If the packaging is anything to go by, these certainly seem to be quality products! I shall report back when I have checked them out.

Excited to see your critique of these cutters... well I am seeing it, thank you for the introduction! I am looking forward to the usage—how these cut, and how these feel to use.

Kent,

like Bruce I'm excited about your presentation of this great tools. My DSPIAE nipper arrived yesterday, after only 6 days from HK to Germany. I've cut the first small parts off the sprue and I'm amazed by the clean pattern.
The drill set looks very nice, too!

I use a DSPIAE nipper for some weeks now, and the high degree of precision and very clean cuts is amazing. Not cheap, but very worthy. One blade acts as a kind of support for the sprue attachment, while the other blade is very sharp and cuts easily and clean. Most cuts not even need to be sanded to remove the remaining plastic, because there is none!
I see that Trumpeter and MENG now sell them under their brand. I wonder what the price from Hongkong is?

While visiting last week the Belgian IPMS Nationals, there was a salesbooth selling DSPIAE stuff.

I also tried the spruecutter and jeez, it felt good. Price was 36 € ($ 42), which is a little bit high, but good stuff don't come cheaply.

Did not buy, but now afterwards I regret I did not buy it... :headbang:

Got mine from Hong Kong for a good price. Postage to the EU is pretty fair. Maybe this is wetting your mouth again, Kari?

I have bought my tool in Belgium. Don´t regret the higher price.
Also, I ordered two more items from DSPIAE on evilBay today. Seller is in China.
