Spent last week in Colorado (25th anniversary trip)....and...did some fishing!!!
We stayed in Avon, and explored the area...Vail, Glenwood Springs, Aspen, Independence Pass, etc.
I stopped and fished here and there...the wife spectated.

1st place we stopped...just caught a bunch of perch...

I certainly didn't go to Colorado to catch perch!!!

Tried another "stocker pond" and caught a half dozen small rainbows...

Image

Pulled a couple out of the Arkansas River, for dinner...(everything else I caught was let go)

Image

Caught a few in Aspen...
Cutbow (cutthroat/rainbow hybrid)
Image

Little brown...

Big rainbow (I caught several others...about 10 total at this spot)
Image

A couple from the Eagle River, right in Avon...
Another little brown...

Another cutbow. It was small, but is probably my favorite fish of the trip...thing was built like a little tank!

Image

I caught around 25 or so, total....browns, rainbow and cutbow.
On the last day of my license, I lost a 20"+ brown, right at the bank...BOOOOOO
But I immediately followed it up with a 22-ish" rainbow...

...And...the highlight of the trip....

Hadn't seen a moose in over 30 years, and this was the 1st bull I've ever seen!

What amazing catches. Beautiful fish. Especially that last one...wow, it must have been hard to land..

What a great trip! My son lives in Colorado - I need to plan a fishing trip with him. He does a lot of trout fishing.
Thanks,
John

One of my greatest memories is a fishing trip my Uncle took me on almost 34 years ago...through CO, WY, MT. I didn't catch a lot back then, but what I did catch was great...and the sights and experiences have left a long lasting impression and helped to shape who I am today. I couldn't help but to reminisce on those 2 weeks, while I was fishing on this trip. I had always hoped to be able to get the chance to make that trip with him again, but it never worked out...and sadly it is too late now.

If ya do get out there....just about anything small will work on them trout!
I caught em on little spinners, kastmasters, flies, jigs, etc. I had the most success with a soft plastic grub/jig....looks like a stone fly nymph (as seen in first pic with the perch).
GET THERE....DO IT!!!

Wow, what an amazing trip and what beautiful fish. Too bad you couldn't keep that nutbow "tank" to mount on the wall. I wish I had the time and resources to do such a trip as well. Thanks for posting this and I'm glad you had such a great and successful trip!

I could get a replica and paint it up...which I would prefer over killing a fish just so I can look at it every day!

Completely understood Jeremy. That is an even better idea, especially since that one was so impressionable. A painted replica would be a perfect commemoration of that memorable fight.
