Strange times...

Pam spent the weekend of May 4th in the hospital with a severe ear infection. Thankfully, I think that has cleared up. Finally. While she was in the hospital, she was on a lot of pain meds and began having tremors, balance issues and a bit of trouble with speech. Interestingly, she was on the “stroke” floor. She mentioned these symptoms to them and they did a quick squeeze-my-hand evaluation. We went home on that Monday. A slight bot of improvement as we got the pain mds out of her system. Over the next few weeks nothing really changed and she said I bet I’ve had a stroke. Finally got into the doc for something else and told them what was going on. He asked if I had seen the symptoms. Uh, yes....

So, he finally agreed to an MarI which took place this past Monday. The results were in her online chart Tuesday. No contact from the doc office. We also started some PT, and the young lady was talking to Pam about all this and asked if Pam wanted Her to look and see if it was there. She did and it seems that she did have a slight stroke. Still nothing from the family doctor’s office. Crickets. We think they didn’t/don’t believe her.

I have ab appt in the morning. Guess what the first thing we are discussing will be?

I’m sure there will now be more doctor visits, to a neurologist, at least. Who knows? Makes me a bit PO’d. Wonder how much damage there actually is since nothing has been done for 5-6 weeks. Very slight speech issue at times, some unsteadiness, but, fortunately, nothing very bad. Just annoying. We have been to the gun range twice since this all started, so I guess it could be worse.

All of that to say that if I’ve been out of sorts, I’m sorry. If I’m gone a bit longer, that is why.

Damn that sucks Lyle. Sorry to hear that. It sounds like a small stroke or a TIA (mini-stroke). But yeah I'd be ripping the doc a new one.

Yeah he will be made aware. Really puzzles me why the hospital did not do more follow-up given the floor we were on. Guess because of the weekend. Thanks .

Lyle... time to find a better doctor ASAP. I'm sorry to hear of Pam's health issues and from what I'm reading sounds like she had a mini stroke. Find and go to a real hospital, somewhere where they specialize in cardiac/stroke where you know they will take care of her. I've gone to Syracuse to a specialist for my son for his vertigo when he was young. My wife gone to Rochester for a second opinion on her mamogram (come to find out it's a cyst, not cancer).

We don't trust the specialists and local hospital in my area. I'd rather go out of town for diagnosis before the local hospital kills me.

What I'm getting at, sometimes you need to go somewhere where they care and treat their patients better than a local hospital and your family doctor.

Not hearing from your doctor for days is wrong. Obviously he doesn't care as long as he's lining his pocket of charges from your hospital/doctor bill.

Keep us posted.

Tom, not generally like this. The hospital we were at was because we thought our ENT still went there come to find out he doesn’t. He did come by on Monday before we were released. It was KY Derby for crying out loud. Don’t bother us. The care on th.e floor eas fine.

I guarantee you that any neurologist appointment will be at a different hospital we trust and usually use.

Very saddened to hear this. I feel good health care is getting harder to find. I went in for a physical last year, new doctor, my doctor who was quite good was no longer there, seems the good ones end up gone, I'm a type 2 diabetic, no check of the glands around my neck, no check of reflexes, no check of the feeling in my feet, always a diabetic check, no prostrate exam, not that I like it, but necessary at my age. He didn't spend 10 minutes with me. My prayers are with you. Keep us posted.
