Eduard Yak 3 Dual Combo

Post by jeaton01 »

My grandson Alex and I have been working on this set for some time, today I put the second camouflage color on mine, his has only the underside color on so far. Fairly nice kits but some of the cockpit parts took some effort to fit. Not what I was expecting from a newer Eduard kit.

The dark grey may be a little too dark, but who's going to know. It is a Tamiya mix, the other two colors are Model Master.

That’s a fine start John. Just like Russian tank green, with the aircraft grays close enough works just fine.

Beautiful job John! As Carlos said about the color, TLAR (that looks about right) Nice smooth airbrush work. Still, you should show more of your grandson's work too, even though he only got the bottom done. I commend you and envy you being able to build a model with your grandson.

Lovely work. And great memory building with you grandson!

Fun project and finally the dual combo concept makes sense to me. Doing a build with grandkids seems like a great idea. I have one and she's 6 month's old so maybe playdough smushing for now. :giggles:
Looking good John. Curious wing profile on the Yak 3. Stocky little fighter.
Thanks,
John

Thanks, all. The Eduard kit is not the best choice for a 6 year old because of the PE and some fiddley fits in the cockpit, but he likes building the same kit I am so I sneak back in and do some of those parts. He's also got a Hobbycraft Sea Fury underway and that is a better choice for a young one.

John, that highly tapered wing plan form is pretty much a Yakovlev trademark on his low wing designs. It was first used on the AIR 14/UT-1.

John, what a neat project with your grandson! That looks like such great fun and both he and you will remember it forever. One of my 7 year-old grandsons wants to build a tank with my help and I've got one set aside for that. Please keep us updated on this project!
