Williams Brothers Curtis C-46 Commando

Post by LyleW »

The descent into madness continues and the decline is rapid.

Whilst the paint is drying on part of the hull on the Colombo, I dug this one out. I am using this as a guide and "gotcha" list.

So far, I've managed to cut out the gear doors and get a wing half together.

Lyle, you’re getting pretty bold in your old age

But I gotta love this subject choice… :hmm:

Are you going to go with OD or NMF?

She is a beast! The man who owned the flying service I trained at, gave me my check ride and was a good friend with my dad flew these over the Hump.

Sadly he passed away in 2010. Read through this. Interesting guy.

Wow what a project. I know Williams Bros kits can be challenging. Valom just came out with a 1/72 new tool as well.
Thanks,

That, is putting it mildly!

Carlos, I’m not sure what the finish will be. From what I’ve read, it takes a lot of filler around the wing roots... that may influence my choice. I’d love to honor Dick Malloy, though.

Well, if you go with NMF like the photo, gel CA makes a good filler choice. Can be sanded and polished glass smooth, and will not shrink like putties do. Those are some interesting national markings in the photo. I do not recognize them at all.

It's best to make a new cargo floor, the kit parts don't fit well. Also, I spread the fuselage on the bottom behind the wing to get a better fit, and to keep the proper contour in the side view. The PE is a nice addition.
