1/72 Hasegawa P-3C Orion

Post by Medicman71 »

While I'm waiting for time to paint, I started on the P-3 Orion. This is an old kit and is starting to really show it's age. Lots of flash on parts and raised panel lines. I started by completely rescribing the model.

Even though it's an older kit, test fitting everything isn't that bad. I've certainly had much worse fitting kits.

After rescribing, I built up the wings and started on the engines. The engines don't have any locating pins so they were hard to build up. I do have some Quickboost props to replace the kit parts.

Yes, drilling those out would be good! I do like the P-3 a lot...need to get one.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

I did one back in the mid 80s after a visit to Pax River NAS where my uncle worked after he got out of the Navy. It was there I saw a squadron of P-3 Orion stationed there. A sight to see and I fell in love with the aircraft. Got the Hasegawa kit at a hobby shop somewhere in Pax River/California/Hollywood area in Maryland. I no longer have the first P-3 Orion kit but wanted another for years. I did find another at Syrcon last year and found a decal set for Pax River NAS online later on. I will be ordering those soon.
I remember it was a fun build and enjoyed every minute of it.

I've always been a fan of the P-3 and sub hunters in general.

Me too. Haven't got my hands on a P-3 kit yet but I do have two P-2 kits
