1/72 MPM Northrop XP-56

Post by BorgR3mc0 »

This is an old school short run kit but pretty good. The WIP tread can be found here.

The final steps have after the WIP tread have been:
- an oil paint wash
- flat coat
- a few details painted
- antenna wire
- I also added a tiny PE triangle on the pin that I used as pitot tube

The gear gave me a lot of fuss. The first attempt was a tail sitter due to the forward rake of the gear. To make matters worse the great broke off. For the second attempt I did a little less forward rake and used super glue. It now sits on its wheels but in my opinion it sits a little to high and it has a bit to much of a nose down attitude.

That's a superbly built and very interesting model Borg, very nicely done.

I like the size comparison with the other types, it's actually quite a sizable aircraft.

Great looking finish and a very unusual looking aircraft. Was the props counter rotating on this?

Yes, it is actually a large aircraft if you consider the wingspan. That why I compared it with the Komet (same planform) and the Mustang (a well know shape/size).

And yes, those where contra rotating props. Originally the kit had them parallel. But I changed them to be a bit more exciting.

Excellent finish there Remco! Your NMF technique turned out beautifully! :shoutout: :shoutout: :shoutout:

Looks very nice. I found the J7W1 Shinden had the same issue with the forward rake of the gear making it wobbly and weak.

What a sensational build Remco! I echo everyone else at how sensational this model looks. I'm very glad you posed it with other aircraft to put it in perspective. Brilliant work man!
