The Duke's Latest Automobile

Post by Duke Maddog »

Along with the other models I finished, I have this one. It was a military designated vehicle, but since it is not camouflaged or anything and was used by a civilian, I'm showcasing this car here.

This is the Roden 1/72 scale Vauxhall D staff car. I built this as the mount used by King Charles to tour the front during WWI:

This was a tough little kit to build; the parts are molded so thin that they broke easily if handled wrong. It had a devil of a time getting this to sit straight and/or line up. The front wheels are super sensitive, you look at them wrong and they fall off! That's how delicate the axles are molded. This does build into a fantastic looking little model though, I'm thrilled to have this in my collection.

I did add a bit of road dust to this but for the most part, I kept it as clean as possible. I'm happy with this one. Now to get the Vauxhall ambulance!

That's all for this one, feel free to check out my latest aircraft and armor as well.

Thanks for looking in, comments are welcome.

Glad to know more about this particular brand of kit. It must've given you a fair share of frustration building it. And you managed to whip it into shape. Well done!!

That's another cool little build Mark. It may have been a challenge, but you obviously handled it well.

Thanks Blacksheep! I was definitely frustrated indeed. This is still such a delicate little car.

Thanks Carlos! I am very happy with the way this turned out.

Amazing work, Duke! You rose to the challenge and built a beautiful automobile from a very delicate kit. Great color palette, too. Job well done!!

Thanks MP! I'm very happy with this.

Bruce, thanks! It was a challenging build, pretty tough to get lined up and easily broken if not careful. Still, I'm very happy with this model. The green is my favorite green color: it's the Testor's square bottle Beret Green. It is normally flat but a nice gloss over it brings out the shiny goodness of this color. I also used that same color on this bus:

Thanks again for the compliments guys!

If I recall that bus is between 6 and 7 inches long. It has been packed away for a while so I don't remember to be honest. In real life, that bus used to car 60+ passengers so it was a very large one.
