Dinosaur and crocodile diorama

Post by BorgR3mc0 »

So, I finally got some time to do some modelling and I finished my Tamiya Crocodile and dinosaur (a Parasaurolophus actually).
I used Tamiya and Gamesworkshop paints. The diorama is made from stuff lying around the house.

Pictures where made using a small lightning photo box. I am still figuring out how to use it. All comments are welcome.

Crocodiles are amazing creatures. Their design as predatores is so perfect, they didn't change since a million years.
Well done vignette!

Very nice, something totally different!
Nice plant details also!

Regarding the lightbox.. In my opinion looks absolutely good, works pretty much as it should.
No sharp shadows at all. Perhaps a stronger lamp (if possible) could make it even better ?

Borg!

That’s a beautiful diorama! The drama is captured perfectly; I really think you caught a moment between those two! You brought them to life!

I think it is important to diffuse the light (I will use tracing paper) as much as possible and balance a pair of sources so the central area has an even tone. Also the shadows on both sides of the base indicate to me that an adjustment needs to be made.

I saw something the other day suggesting the use of coffee filters (new and unused of course) to soften the light of flashes for photos... should work with lights as well... :hmm:

Thanks for you feedback and advice on using the light box.

My current set up is like this:

I will tweak the lights a bit for better effects.

Nice Setup, Borg! Use a cool iron to iron out the creases to make a seamless backdrop, though, then afterwards roll this around a clean cardboard tube to store without wrinkling it.

I bought it at the local photo store (we still have one!). It was a Sinterklaas present for my wife so that she can photograph her jewellery business. I found the price quite acceptable at € 39,- you can probably find them cheaper on the internet but I wanted to support my local store.
