The 'Turtle'...

Post by Stuart »

Currently got a bid in for this old kit - hopefully I get it, my max bid is far higher than I'd pay for a Tamiya kit.. :hmm:

But I do love those markings! :lashed:

Apparently the Monogram kit has covered holes in the wings for the three tube rocket launchers but never supplied them - I do however have a spare set in my P-51D kit.

I do hope I win it!

Cheers!

And if for some reason someone else takes it, Hannants has decals for the Turtle!

Hopefully for far less than your max bid.

Oh far less - I picked it up for £20 plus P&P. Much less it turns out than the Tamiya kit would have been (They're about £28-£30). I will get a Tamiya P-47 at some point as it's an awesome kit, but I've fancied building a Monogram kit for a while.

Nice! I had that same kit in 1/72 scale, complete with markings. I don't know where it is though....

Looking forward to seeing you build this.

Thanks Mark - I'm looking forward to building it, it'll only be the 2nd 1/48 scale Monogram kit I've built and my first P-47.

I think I'm pretty much going to go OOB on this one, with even the pilot in it if I cane paint him up okay.

You’ll like the kit Stuart. The bubbletop is Monogram’s original 1/48 P-47D kit, coming out several years before their Razorback P-47D. When it was released, it was cutting edge state of the art, with a nicely detailed cockpit, wheel wells, and engine. Personally I think that it has held up pretty well, but I am a bit biased. I’ve built several over the years.

Thanks Carlos - I shall look forward to it.

I just need to source some rocket tubes :hmm: I thought the Airfix P-51 kits came with some but alas not.. I'm bloody sure I've got some somewhere though.
