Special Hobby Bugatti-De Monge 100p 1/72

Post by BorgR3mc0 »

I am currently building the Special Hobby Bugatti 100p. Another tiny 1/72 aircraft with a fabulous shape, build for speed!
It is one of those kits that look pretty on the sprue but is finicky to build. The master makers had a bit more ambition the the tool makers could deliver. This tiny beast will use a lot of putty!

:hmm: Oh I do like the looks of this one! Is this some sort of racer?

Oh that is one funky looking little plane! I'm glad to see you build this as I had never heard of it before. It almost looks like it would fit perfectly in a Sci-Fi movie!

Bring it on Remco!

Never knew Bugatti dabbled in aircrafts.

Beautiful aircraft. I have the Planet Models resin kit.
The only example to fly was a replica that killed its creator and pilot in 2016.
Check out the Bugatti 100P Project on facebook. They have so many reference photos.
It was built just prior to germanys invasion. There was talk of turning it into a fighter. But it got put in a garage and locked up for the remainder of the war and never flew.
The cause of the replicas accident was an engine faliure which caused an unexpected torquing event resulting in the aircraft flipping on its back on takeoff.
You can learn all the math in the 'Verse, but you take a boat in the air that you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurtin' 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I barely knew Scotty and I got the chance to see this one up close a time or two. Sadly he lost his life in the plane. Bugatti even granted a mfg number to this plane making it the second one manufactured.

Thanks guys! I indeed found a lot of pictures of the replica. Main difference visually is that the original had a red cockpit and the replica an unpainted one. Internally the replica was quite different and use motorcycle engines. It is a sad affair the it crashed and toke the live of the pilot.
As said, the original is een reserved but hasn’t actually flown.
