Back to work

Post by keavdog »

Well, I tried retirement for a bit but I've joined the work force once again. Started a new position 11/30. If anything good came from COVID-19 it's the new tech world order. You can live where you want and work for any company in the world.
I'll try not to let it interfere with my building once I get my bench up in a couple months. :giggles:
Thanks,
John

When I retire I need 3 years, I’ll have 35 years with my current employer. I want to enjoy my down time for awhile. Who knows... maybe I’ll work part time at a couple places I have in mind - one being a courtesy driver for the garage I was a regular customer for years. I know they’ll hire me on the spot. The other - school monitor or security guard at an elementary school or middle school.

When I retired 5 years ago at 59,there was no looking back if I still needed to work,I would have stayed,I enjoyed my job and made good money, but it was time to go and I'm glad I did.I was able to sell a house, make an interstate move, and build a house in 2 years. Now I'm settled in and still relatively young.

I realize everybody has different circumstances and the economy has certainly postponed retirements, but once I quit,I wasn't going back.

I retired at the end of the 2016 school year, after teaching Junior High kids for 17 years. It is great to have all that free time, but the money's not so great either. Every time we take the grandkids to the local DQ, I see their help wanted sign there. One can start filling drinks and taking orders for $16 an hour. When I worked as a pretty damned good painter, I never made that kind of hourly wage. Now, I'm tempted to wear that DQ shirt and get some of that "easy money". And man, would the grandkids like that, ol' Grandad behind the counter at Dairy Queen!?!

Oh the troubles my sister & I can get into when she retires from her teaching job. We’d call in sick places we don’t work at, drive slow during the morning rush, schedule a job interview and give sarcastic responses to the interviewer, sit in a crowded Parkin game lot people watching - especially the one holding the key fob looking for their car by honking our horn thinking she found her car, etc.... LOLOL!

Nah… no going back to work here. The County of Los Angeles pays me a nice monthly sum not to show up and deal with peoples stupidity. Nearly as much as they paid me to show up. Now I don’t have to commute, pay for gas, or stress out about not being able to say what I really think over the stupid childish antics of the general public when they call about the situation that they’ve usually created for themselves.
All is not roses and sunshine, but it is great to have survived to reach this point. Oh yeah, in a couple more years, Uncle Sam kicks in his “thank you for your service” bar tab payment fund.

Ha... I could, but I had a colleague that pinged me and asked for my help. Great opportunity and I was maybe looking to get back into the game. Perfect storm so to speak.
Thanks,
John

Postal paperwork says I can go in 5 years. I'll be 57. Too young to collect social security. Where the hell am I gonna go and make the kind of money I make now. My plan is 62. I'll have 36 years in at that point

We had some jerks on our job who were 62 and over, their combined pension and SS was actually equal to their working salary but they would say they weren't retiring because they didn't want to be home all the time with their wives !!!!

If things were that bad,it was time to get divorced, these guys think their going to live forever.I don't want to tell you how many guys died before retiring and never saw a dime of their pension.
Got to get out if you can and enjoy the rest of your life while you are able.
