Carlos, I haven't read that book, but I will keep my eyes peeled to see if I can get it to read. Thanks!

I watched “Dauntless” last night and was pleasantly surprised. You could tell that it was not a big budget movie, but aside from that aspect, I thought that it was well done. It captured many nuances of the Battle of Midway that the other two Midway movies ignored or barely/briefly covered. Funny thing is, most of the user reviews on IMDB for the film are pretty negative. But I think that they were probably by your Millenial or Gen Z viewer who only have the most limited if any knowledge of that battle and were expecting another high action shoot ‘em up. I think that I prefer Dauntless’ understated approach compared to the 2019 Midway.

I agree 100%. I thought it was well made. I’ve told a couple people about it and they were pleasantly surprised on how well made it was. The trouble with Millenials and Gen Z they”expect” to see a high action movie, yet they don’t learn the reality and history of it all. Sad really. At least my son who now is 20 yrs old knows and is interested in some history no matter what it is. I guess it’s me instilling it in him.

I decided to look a bit into the Enterprise Air Group at Midway, particularly in regards to the losses of that morning, and came across a website dedicated to USS Enterprise CV-6. On the site I found the original after action reports from the battle. Now the reports are pretty dry reading, as are most military reports. But they are full of information regarding the aircraft flown, aircrews, and their losses. The Torpedo 6 report is Rey minimal, probably due to the surviving ranking officer who wrote it not having the experience of previously writing such reports, which normally be written by the CO or XO. Both of those officers perished during the morning attack.

The reports section of the site
