Fujimi 1/72 A4D-2

Post by jeaton01 »

I have been collecting the Fujimi A-4's for a long time, now is as good a time as any to get started on one of them. This -2 looks like a great kit. Going to use a Microscale decal sheet for an A4D-2 of VA-34 on Saratoga.

Going to be good. I can feel it it SPA Modeler karma.
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Who doesn't love a scooter! Had to look up that name though. Must have changed it to A-4x at some point e.g. A-4E A-4F A-4M.
Thanks,
John

Oh wow. That’s a scheme from early in the Scooter’s career! Very cool subject.

As for the designation, I repudiate McNamara! A-4B in his BS. The Navy had a great designation system.

I've got my share in the stash also. Whenever I see one at a decent price it comes home.

That decal sheet is great.

Good choice John, I like that scheme. I do like A-4's, it's been ages since I built one - I do have the rather nice looking Airfix kit in the stash though whic is a great little kit by all accounts.

Confession time - I've yet to build a Fujimi kit, although I do here good things about them.

I ended up doing the kit scheme, but I don't remember why. This was a difficult build for me because of a tremor I have always had and the brittleness of some of the plastic. Don't know if that has to do with the age of my kit or not. It is also a pretty small model. The nose gear shattered into three parts and broke again today when I was putting it in the display case. The slats were finally successfully put on using epoxy, I think next time I will use brass wire and fit the wire before joining the upper and lower wing parts. The modular nature of the kit was not an issue as the fit was pretty good.

The last picture is there because long ago I remember a photo in a Flying magazine (which is still around here) of an A-4 in formation with a B-36.
