ESCI 1/72 Jagdpanther

Post by cbaltrin »

Been having an itch to build a tank lately (I blame Stikpusher for that BTW :ballbat: ).
So, I was looking through armor kits at the LHS yesterday and could not decide on anything because I have not payed attention to Armor models in about 40 years and had not done my research..
Long story short--I saw this guy in my stash last night and wanted to look the sprues over. Next I noticed some warped main chassis components and had to start playing with it to see if it could be fixed. 2 hours late 1/2 the kit was done... :bag:

Another thing I noticed is the rather strange box art. You would think a tank would be in a tank battle, but the only smoke in the picture is coming from a downed aircraft. Maybe ESCI thought this was an anti-aircraft vehicle?

I have to say though, for 40+ old 1/72 armor kit, I am pretty impressed with this. Lots of nice detail. Just needs some figures...

Oh, dear God…not another one!
To make each build less crappy than the last one. Or, put another way, "Better than the last one, not as good as the next one!"..

Nice subject. I seen one on display at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa, Canada 2 years ago.

Nice - I do enjoy a bit of small scale armour.

Chris, welcome to my world! I built one of those way back when I was 9 or so. Yeah, they have great detail and fit together well. I recommend getting some aftermarket tracks for this; you can get a set from OKB Grigorov. The vinyl ones that come with it are stiff, difficult to connect and too strong for the sprocket attachment points, causing the sprocket and idler wheels to break off.

Thanks for the tip Duke -- Yes, the kit tracks do look a bit troublesome.
