102, what a great age. Rest in peace.

I actually saw both Chuck Yeager and Bud Anderson in 2003. They where at the "Air Poche One" airshow in Habere Poche, France. This is a very small airshow on a grass strip organised by the local glider club. It was weird to see these to legends at such an small event with just a few hundred people on the field. They where both quite approachable, taking some time for autographs and some small talk with the general public. However, I was to star struck to ask for an autograph :headbang:
I later found out that Chuck Yeager got the French Legion of Honor award and that was the reason why he was in France.

I’ve never seen Bud Andersen. But I did see Yeager at the last Edward’s AFB Open House Air Show that I was able to attend back in ‘97. He flew in a twin seat F-15 to do a 50th anniversary Mach busting to open the show. Later he walked by my family and me on his way to his seating spot in the VIP area with his escorts and USAF Brass Hats entourage. Although he was maybe 2-3 meters away, there was no way to stop and talk with him at that time. He was a superstar at that show. :hmm:

Now that Bud has joined him upstairs, I do hope they do get to do their fishing again.
