:hmm: Just had to look up the M4A4 on Wikipedia - mainly used by non-US nations. Interesting that it still had the small hatches.

Yes, it was very much an export only model, like the M4A2. Aside from the M4/M4A1, which were identical automotively and only differed in hull armor (rolled/welded vs. cast), all the A# variants differed in powerplant types and associated engine area details. . The A4 had a slightly lengthened hull compared to all others due to its engine type.
