Finally some progress. After a few putty sanding cycles I sprayed primer. I used a Infiny sanding sponge set to get everything nice and smooth.

I used mr Surfacer 1200 with some extra Tamiya white added as primer. I choose not to use a black base because that desaturates the colours whilst this should be bright blue.

That jig is very easy to make. Just a few toothpicks (or cocktail sticks) and styrofoam. The sticks are splayed outward and the tension that causes fixates the model.

After primer I sanded the model to make it smooth. Nevertheless the layer of blue is not as smooth as I wanted. Also, depending on the light used it is a bit translucent/uneven. So I think I will lay down another layer.
