Hell yes!! My father-in-laws birth father was a pilot for them when they flew Fury's. He was killed while flying the Fury. I did a model of that jet.Stikpusher wrote: ↑Tue Jun 10, 2025 1:02 pm Tom, yes you need another Phantom![]()
Mike, I’m planning on the VMFA-323 markings.
Thanks Chris. Yes, you can make a F-4N from the Tamiya F-4B. Ns were rebuilt Bs in reality, just like the S was rebuilt from the J. Most changes were internal or in the cockpit. The biggest visual cue for either type is the ECM blisters on the intake sides, sort on the S and longer on the N. IIRC the S also had wing slats added as well. But yes, there are always more Phantoms to be made.cbaltrin wrote: ↑Wed Jun 11, 2025 6:31 am Nice Project. And those are some nice markings Carlos. I was toying with getting that sheet to do a Grey Ghost with the Tamiya F-4B (not sure if you can do an N with that kit?) , but having just acquired all those nice 1/72 Fine Molds B/N/J Phantoms, as well as a nice AOA decal sheet, I said to myself in my best British accent, "What's a matter with ya man, have ya gone completely bonkers?"![]()
I know the feeling. Bought a '70 1/2 Baldwin Camaro kit at Syrcon some years back for $10. What steal! Come to fi d out it was missing several parts. Basically, a junkyard kit. Lesson learned since I now check the contents thoroughly.Stikpusher wrote: ↑Thu Jun 12, 2025 12:06 pm Well, this project is going on indefinite hold for now. Long story short, I purchased the kit secondhand from a member of another forum, "free to a good home, just pay for shipping". Unfortunately the kit is quite incomplete. I contacted the seller about the missing parts and was told that he never checked the kit for inventory and had obtained it secondhand. I ordered parts to cover the obvious missing ones. But now as I get ready to start painting, it turns out plenty more are missing. Had the poster said "kit incomplete" I would have saved my money. Now between shipping, buying replacement parts, and now needing to buy more replacement parts to make the basic kit, it would have been cheaper to have bought the kit anywhere else new.
