That's a good tale Gary! I can see that making a good story. Writing's not easy though - it takes some practice but you'll get there. The best advice I ever heard was to write something everyday, even if it's sh!t.Gary Brantley wrote: ↑Tue Jun 17, 2025 8:16 am I've been trying to write short stories lately. And it's a struggle. I started one, got about five pages of foolscap, and didn't much like it. So, I started on another. I've been trying to tailor some family history or lore into these stories; hey, they say to write what ya know! I've had pretty good success (I think...) on the latest one. It seems to be more in line with what I had in mind.
My maternal grandfather's first wife cheated on him. My grandfather found out and gave the lover a bad beating. And a warning; that there had better not be a next time. But there was.
My grandfather, Tom Harris, had already been charged with murder back around 1901. At 16 or 17, he was ambushed by a couple other young men. At least one of them was the brother of a girl whom Tom had his eye on. The brother wanted his sister to go with one of his friends instead. The two met my grandfather on a country road under the pretense of buying a horse, near the central Texas town of Holland. Words were soon exhanged and they were followed with shooting. Tom was shot in the arm and returned fire, killing one and wounding the other. Tom was charged with murder but acquitted by reason of self-defense.
So, about 20 years later, after his wife began cheating again, my grandfather ended the affair for good He found the two lovers under some pecan trees on the banks of the Little River. They were on a blanket when he walked up on them. I'm guessing there was a brief conversation and then Tom told the lover, "Well, you'll never f*ck another man's wife again!" And with those final words, Tom pulled a gun out of his coat and blew away the man's genitals. The now-neutered man didn't die then, but he did commit suicide within a few months. That man was either a Texas game warden or Bell County Constable or Deputy. My grandfather never even paid a fine for the shooting. The marriage didn't survive either. Years later, my grandfather told the story to my Uncle Elzy, momma's brother. Tom said of the poor bastard, "I guess he shot his pockets out." And old pool-shooting expression to denote someone gambling away all their money, it seemed to fit in there. Some gambles just aren't worth the loss.![]()

You sound like me Chris, a lot on the go but not much momentum.cbaltrin wrote: ↑Tue Jun 17, 2025 10:54 am Too much as usual Stuart.
In 1/48 scale land I have the Monogram F-14A and Razorback P-47 OTB.
In 1/72 scale land I have a Arma ki-84, Hasegawa Fw190A-8 & N1K2 , plus the Tamiya ki-61 and finally a Fujimi RF-4C.
There is also my Monogram B-17G that just needs the wings finished and attached and a Tamiya Skyraider that I always seem to find a reason not to work on![]()
These are just the ones I have touched recently.
LOL!!!!! It's be good to see them finished. How many have you got on the go Mike?Medicman71 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 17, 2025 9:09 am I'm trying to get all these jets that are started finished. No Gundams or anything else until I get them done!![]()

Interesting to see everybody's responses.
Like a lot of you I'm just going with the flow. I have quite a few kits on the bench that I'm picking up, working a bit on, and then moving on. Currently I've got the Cruiser tank for the 10 GB, A Tamiya Chieftain, Tamiya Tiger, Tamiya E8 Sherman and a Eduard 1/48 P-39. Oh and the 1/72 Starfire and Shooting Star (although I've lost interest in 1/72 a bit recently).
I came to the conclusion over the last few years that the hobby is more about building, rather than how many I finish.
Theme-wise I'm loosely into Cold War Armour, WWII ETO and Africa. I'd also like to get back into building 1/48 WWII Fighters, something I've not really done properly, even though when I first got back into modelling I wanted to build 1/48th exclusively.

Well, what I'm into at the mo is getting to my latest Milestone. I just need to finish 30 more vehicles to reach it. Getting it done before year end is gonna be close.
After that, maybe I'll get started on building up my Navy again....

Mark, I have no doubt that you will reach your next milestone within the allowed timespan. I know you.Duke Maddog wrote: ↑Thu Jun 19, 2025 3:37 pm Well, what I'm into at the mo is getting to my latest Milestone. I just need to finish 30 more vehicles to reach it. Thank you Carlos! Yeah, if I can maintain my mojo and increase my production, I'm sure I can. Lately it seems I'm back on track. I do hope that you come visit to see it when I have it all out on display. That would be a thrill!

Not really,I usually just look at the stash and pick one that hits ne at the moment, sometimes a group build will dictate which way I'm going.

My mojo lately seems to come in spurts. I'll get quite a bit done in a short time then will go a week or two without getting anything done
