Two simple ones for me to start with. I may add more in a few days.
1) changing from Xacto blades to proper surgical blades.
2) A mental shift, such that when I get the urge to add a new kit, that I probably won’t have time to build, to my already too large stash, I ask myself: What modeling tool could I purchase instead? Good tools make the model building process much more enjoyable which in itself leads to improved quality and quantity of work.

Chris, Your second point is a point well taken and I thank you for making it. I’ve never used a proper scalpel but I can see that both the grip and the blade itself are designed to be more secure and easier to use.

Bruce, I find the quality and variety the blades to be the most important factor. There are surgical no 11 blades that fit fine in a hobby knife handle, but there are other ones you will need a proper scalpel blade handle for such as the no.23

Snap - I've been using those and other sized scalpel blades for years.

A pair of scalpels is now on my list, gents. I do like knives. I always have a pocket knife on me for whatever the day might bring my way—even if it’s just opening letters. One bit of kit recommendation from Thomas Mayer was to use box cutters for sprues; and that is a recommendation I’ve adopted. I wouldn’t call the idea a game changer. The forum has been the most successful overall at upping my game. However I still try to work with minimal tools, because I don’t have a dedicated work space and my studio is primarily used to draw and paint these days.

I've been thinking about this; learning about new techniques from Finescalemodeler magazine was a big step up and a game changer for me. As was the invention of the Internet. I built many models before the 'net existed and more before we finally got access. I have a large paper reference collection, as most of us do, I have learned so much from great scale modelers all over the world. That has been a game changer too. The internet has also been somewhat of a mixed blessing for me; I love that all that info is now available, but it does really sloooow meeee dooowwwnn as far as modeling progress goes. I know I was way more productive before the 'net, whether my models now show that or not. 
However, my lack of progress really can't all be laid on the internet; I'm just older, slower and a bit less motivated than I was at 43, or 53...or even 63.

I hear ya, Gary. I tried limiting internet usage since January 1st… and so far I have failed every day.

I share the same sentiment as Gary. I often research my builds - mainly aircrafts online and books, magazines or whatever publications I have on hand or from the library.
I do like the UK aviation magazine, FlyPast a lot. I find a lot of inspiration in there often and I usually start the hunt for aftermarket decals if they’re available. I stopped buying it every month at Barnes and Nobles just before the pandemic due to the price. Now I think it’s like $14 USD here in the states. Stuart should be familiar with that magazine.

You and me both. I spend way more time now online researching every build than I ever did with books, magazines, and other print references. The internet is a double edged blade that cuts both ways. Super helpful, yet also super distracting and delaying, always tempting with that one last tidbit of info that we need for that final detail… and that detail always turns up after completion of the last project…
