I need professional help, no, not what you are thinking. You car guys...those that use BMF to chrome the window trim. Yes, you!

How the heck do you get that to stay in place while trimming?

How wide a strip do you cut? Just enough to cover the trim piece or a larger piece?

I get it in place, burnish it with a toothpick or a hammer and use a new X-Acto Z-series blade. Inevitably, one side will go just fine and then when trimming off the second edge, the whole piece lifts.

Hmmm... I work by doing one side at a time using a slightly larger piece just enough to cover the area you want to chrome. (ie: windshield trim) I can only think of two things, either the BMF sheet you’re using is old or the tacky side has been handled too much it loses its tackiness to adhere properly. Other than that, you’re doing everything right - burnishing and using a brand new Xacto Z Series blade.

Thanks. The sheet is 2-3 years old, so maybe that is it. I have also noticed some adhesive “marking” when I remove the excess.

Calling it done. It needs to come off the bench. Still a bit of touch up on tail lights to do. My old bug-a-boo of clear parts came in to haunt me, though. I thought I had dipped the small pieces on the sprue in Future....oops. Hence, we don't have headlights, we have "fog" lights. Oh well...lesson learned. Still not sure why the BMF acted the way it did. Perhaps, as was suggested, it is just too old. I wonder if room temp had something to do with it as well.
