Thanks so much for checking in, Stuart. This continues to be a strange experience—this is a kit from the Sixties, with a lot of chrome plating; a lot of bling. So last night I clipped two full sprues of chrome plated plastic into sectional groupings, in advance of chrome removal. Ultimately I am gonna dirty this beast up so much I hope its character still shines through. The goal here is less “Uber Accuracy,” and much more of a “Character Study,” a snapshot of the winner after battle! At least that is what I tell myself whilst I snip, snip, snip sprues. No bling. Just a lot of stressed and oily surfaces splattered with macadam!

Sorry for the absence folks. This has been one crazy ass last few weeks. I've had so much going on in the way of being out of town and trying to recover rest wise in between trips. As a matter of fact I've got another trip out of town tomorrow. It'll be an 8 hour trip up tomorrow and an 8 hour trip back on Saturday. Looks like I'll be recovering next week too.

As far as this part goes:



That is designed to encase the carburetor to shield it from excessive engine and in this case the exhaust heat from those headers that run particularly close to the carburetor and fuel lines. It keeps fuel from boiling in the fuel bowls and in the lines going to the carburetor. Prevents vapor lock which'll cause LOTS of driveability problems and you don't want that when you're tryin' to win a race.

Thank you so much, Mustang! We missed you, bud. I know I did. However, it is summer and you are describing a very active summer schedule, so really my main concern is you take the time you need for resting. I am trying to juggle this project with the Hase P-51D. I guess I am under a grip of vehicular seduction because I spend time on this puppy when I should be splitting time or sharing time with both kits. The Bandai lineage definitely continues from the design of this kit in basically all of the colors necessary for building the model with very little painting of so desired, just like the current crop of Bandai Star Wars kits actually, and the plastic is “Tupperware-like” in its sheen and resistance to paint etch; a fact that has come back to bite me on the work so far, instead of simplicity, choosing a car painted in black and white primarily, my life is made a bit more challenging than I thought.
