You’re doing just fine on that small scale figure painting Tom. Any progress is good!

At least they don’t take much paint...

Having painted thousands of 1/72 scale figures, I'd say you did a super fine job! Brilliant job man!

I forgot to post photo of figure but too late now. X-Wing is primed in black and ready for paint. Gun barrels are not glued on just yet. I don't want to risk snapping them off during painting and decalling sessions.

Here’s my painting session planning....
I’m going to experiment using a mule F-16 kit in my attempt of a patch work using a combination of white, PollyScale US TAC Light Grey, and PollyScale Israeli Grey. The original molded panels, I’m going to go with using either British Crimson Red, Model Master Oxide Red or Floquil Railroad color Wisconsin Cntrl Maroon.
Other panel color on the nose, I will use either Floquil TTX Yellow (FS 13523) or PollyScale Italian WW2 Camo Yellow 2 (FS 33481)
Individual various panels areas will likely be Engine Grey.
The nice thing about this particular kit, it comes with both water slide decals and sticker decals. I’ll use the sticker decals in my attempt to use as a masking agent. Hard to explain how but I have an idea how to go about it. I might even look into more schemes as well.
As far as the striping on the laser gun barrel, I will paint them instead of using decals.
Or I can go the route of doing a BlackSheep Squadron scheme using various blues and greys and making custom decals.
So much to think about...
