AC/pzl66’s so right about Krylon Silver! Also may I suggest Rub n Buff Silver? I think you might dig that as well.

Getting ever closer to calling this one done enough...meaning, I'm tired of trying to correct the several flaws around the cockpit, etc. If I keep at it, it will go south. Anyway, my version of anodized aluminum is on, and I need to do props, landing gear, exhaust pieces and fix the tail wheel. Not a big list. I thought I'd give the old girl some nice shiny decals...the kit decals started coming apart on me.

Image

Not only did they come apart, it appears that they printed the N-number as individual digits...C'mon, who does that?

Image

Since I had scanned in the decal sheet, I printed a set and carried on, so to speak.

Since I can't print white...I dug out the Testor's Decal bonder and sprayed the kit sheet, since I need some of those markings. We shall see. I have had dismal luck with the Micro Decal Film.

Nice save on the decals. I’m batting about .750 using Microscale decal film over old decals. On some (theirs) it works great. On others, so so.

I do need to try my hand at printing my own decals someday...

So far, so good on the Testor's spray. Nothing has come apart. The large 5 was without it and gave the first inclination of coming apart. It is off center, but I can't move it.

Such a catastrophe with decals would have stopped the whole build for me. I have never printed decals. Great work Lyle! You make it sound like a minor inconvenience instead of a disaster.

Borg, it really isn’t that hard, I have an HP All-in-One I use to scan them, I still would have had major problems if the Testors spray hadn’t worked on the kit sheet that was left. As, it was, still had to cut a white circle to place behind the fuselage 57. Jump in.,

Lyle, how fancy of a scanner/printer is that HP? I am really wanting to try the decal printing thing myself. Not only for scanning and printing replacements, but for stuff like aircraft code letters and numbers.

This one is old. You can get the for a 100 to 150 easy. They scan print, copy and fax. All the printer companies have them. Romberg they are ink jet and you would have to seal the decals. I found an inexpensive color Kaiser a few years ago for under 150, I think and I generally use that to print decals.

The printers I have are, that are pretty much the lower end..but not the bottom of the line.

HP 8600 AIO oggice jet
Canon All in One (AIO) I got to replace the HP and don’t much care for
Dell 1660 color laser
Samsung b/w laser from work that was free
Silhouette Portrait cutter
