Working on getting the stabilizer installation finished. I 3d Printed some mounting hardware. The raised area on the back plate is to offset the opposing raised area inside the fuselage from the kit's locating pin. I used a standard divider to make sure I drilled the holes in identical places on both sizes of the fuselage and used a triangular cutting bit to get the holes started (drill bit would have wandered around too much).
The idea was to allow a little play in this assembly so both stabs can be installed at the exact same angle. I will probably use 5 or 10 min epoxy to install the posts and tweak things as the epoxy sets up.
The holes in the stabs are also a bit oversized to allow for some additional latitude in positioning things.
Very happy with the results.

Will pose these drooped as they are normally seen when a/c is on the ground.

Or maybe I'll drop the flaps and modify the nose gear to kneel so they can be displayed as if going down the cat... :hmm: Ok, maybe not... :giggles:

For some reason, most likely due to the fantastically expensive and ridiculously slow internet speed found in my home, I am unable to see your photos from your last post. Prior posts are working. So I have tried to erase the sight of Mr. Myers as Blofeld or whatever he calls Blofeld petting a cat from my mind and instead used my imagination to visualize what you describe, something of a first for me and possibly a first for anyone on a modeling forum—at the moment I can confirm that I am utterly over the moon with your latest work; all is coming together!

And seriously when I’m finally able to see these images I’ll be able to competently post a reply.

Cheers

i know, Gary! I know! I was jesting because Carlos and Chris are two meme-masters and I don’t wanna try to make that kinda statement.

I was finally able to see the images after going to the local ihop and using free WiFi. God bless rubbery pancakes and stale syrup—breakfast of champions.

Looks like some sweet fill work overall. I’d like to use Aves again. It was John Kim who turned me on to Milliput. I don’t know much about modern aircraft yet but one sure fire way to learn is to follow along with you, Chris. I can appreciate your love for this kit, too. I can also appreciate the reality of your model building approach—the usage of inverted egg cartons as a support takes me all the way back to memories of my Dad’s bench when I was but a wee lad by the side of the ditch and everything he did was enormous and powerful and magical. That’s a long winded way of saying good job of work, but I think you knew that.

I’m envious and jealous of a good and proper bench. Looks like your set up is perfect.

Bruce and Gary, you guys are way to kind. I'm off to find a head-deflator because as of right now, It can't fit through the door to my hobby room :giggles:
Seriously though, I appreciate your kind words and hope that when all is said and one, the finished product will be up to the high bar you have set for me

A really interesting build Chris - I like how you're going about tackling a lot of the problems with this kit - the new pins for the tailplane were an excellent idea. The cockpit btw, looks excellent.

It's funny, whilst I've not built a Tomcat I can recognise a lot of the issues you're having in the two 1/48 Airfix Tornados I've built. I wish I had access to CAD and a 3D printer then.

Jumped back on this horse this week. The intakes have always been a speedbump with this kit. Decided not to do a thing with the intake seams, because, you know, it's a model and the brain knows that  This decision will make painting the intakes much simpler.
