1/48 Hobby Boss A-6E Intruder

Post by DoogsATX »

Got Hobby Boss' brand new 1/48 A-6E Intruder up and running over the past few days.

The Intruder is one of my favorite aircraft...I've been itching to build the A-6A since it came out, but the absence of any aftermarket GRU-5 seats has been holding me back. Not an issue with the A-6E, since Aires has a nice set of GRU-EA7 bangseats. So off to the races for an Operation Desert Storm 'truder.

The kit itself is impressive. And it looks a lot more imposing at first than it really is, since fully four of the sprues are dedicated to ordnance.

Initial test-fit of some main components.

Aftermarket is going to be pretty light. Aires seats and a Fightertown decal sheet. I'm not sure which exact Intruder I'm going to do yet, but I've got a little while to sort it.

The kit seats aren't bad. The Aires seats are way better.

The seats with the PE belts added, plus some scratch wiring with lead wire.

I have GOT to get me one of these bad boys.
You can learn all the math in the 'Verse, but you take a boat in the air that you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps her in the air when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurtin' 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Trying to get this kit for a reasonable price for some time now. It's quite expensive compared to other HB kits.
But the quality speaks for itself, making the Kinetic one look old.

Impressively detailed CP!

The new seats look ace! Did you follow pictures of the cockpit when adding the lead wire? Looks really good, adding nice detail to the 'pit.
