I went through the same thing with the Pabst Blue Ribbon COE kit. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too expensive but AMT has been making these kits in different boxings for years now. Hope this helps you out.

I've got a rig that I would love to build but to me it would be like building a bomber. I'd be on it building for a solid year......at least!

Finally got the Starsky & Hutch Torino kit at... Michael’s.... armed with a 50% coupon! Got it for $12.51! Will post pics in Aquisitions thread later.
Why, oh why must it be molded in red and black?
Looks like I’m gonna have to prime the body in white primer. Found the Starsky & Hutch red in Zero Paint brand. Pricy ($10.75 a bottle) but I’m getting it regardless.

Does it come with a Huggy Bear figure?
