Dick Brennan's 1971 Ford Maverick-Moving Forward-06/29

Post by mustang1989 »

I've had this once completed build hanging around for a while now. I ordered it off of ebay several years ago because I couldn't find an unbuilt Jo-Han Maverick. Just after I received it I found a kit still in the box so this has sat at the back of my bench for the last few years awaiting either disassembly or a fate in the trash can. The more I looked at it, however, the more I saw a salvageable paint job but still lacked any real motivation to tear it apart an shine things up a bit.

First off lets get a photo going of the subject:

and a picture of the body on my bench undergoing a wet sanding an polish up:

I was cruising through Hobby Lobby and found this:

and I thought to myself, "Hey!!! Those tires are PERFECT!!" and I immediately thought of the Maverick.

It shouldn't take too long to shine up and put a set of good looking slicks and skinnies under it on some slot , period correct, wheels.

BTW....progress is STILL going on with the Arado build. This is merely a progress filler to keep me from stagnating while I'm on long term projects such as the Arado and the Malibu. More coming...………..

That's an interesting idea - buying a kit somebody else has built up and improving it. It's a bit like the guy on agape that buys the di-cast models to turn into Police cars etc. It's a great idea.

Looking forward to seeing where this goes Joe - and a great choice of wheels!

Thanks Stuart!

Got another shot of him leaving the line with this car. It's interesting to note that he changed the powerplant from a 427 to a Boss 429 here:

Had a Pinto..74, I believe. Not a bad car, That and the Maverick did clean up pretty well.

So, you wet sanded a finished model with decals? I am assuming it had a clear coat. I still glue my fingers together...
