About an hour of modeling each evening sums up to... now, at least something.
  • Paint and install engine -> check

  • Paint and install drive shaft -> check
  • Paint and install exhaust system -> check

Now for the main event: painting the body (not to be confused with body painting).

Tub with interiors is finished. Details are ok-ish, but I see that from the perspective of an aircraft builder. During build I had to keep in mind that all this will barely seen when the car's finished. That's one of the lessons for somebody new in the car modeling buiz. The mold of the drivers seat seems to be slightly damaged, there are some strange raised plastic bits on it. Left it as it is because lazy.

Gorgeous. Your point is well taken; I call this “working to the level of the model itself,” I don’t know what anyone else calls it, but every build has a limit line that is either used or ignored. Both approaches yield results. I think about what you wrote concerning a certain Fw 190 project of your own when you suggested that painting the cockpit black would yield acceptable results and save time as well as heartache or headache. I paraphrase your words, hopefully I have the gist. From what is visible here, there is a stunning amount of detail above the level due to your fabulous skill as a color slinger! The interior color is quite spot on despite molding issues and carries the “plumped look” of auto seats very realistically. The dash and wheel are also spot on!

The body was primed with two layers of gloss black. It had time to dry for over a week during my travel to Portugal. Last night four layers of dark aluminum were sprayed on with 5 minutes drying time between each layer.

This will be left to dry again for a couple of days, followed by a thin coat of Aqua Gloss to protect the fragile Alclad paint from my fingers and decal setting solution.

Cheers

I have to give this a bump up to the top of the lists. The work is phenomenal, Torben. My little emoji of love was but a stop gap measure to indicate just how beautifully done everything you create is.

I need to turn you on to Tru-Color. My Dad transitioned to Tru-Color during the Last Days of Floquil. They sell the best silver I have seen. I saw a test where a piece of two inch packing tape was applied to a surface painted in Tu-Color silver. This is the really sticky stuff, mind you. And ya know what happened? Nothing.

Thank you so much, Bruce of Brucington!
Alclad was the way to go for metal finishes for over a decade and when I came back into the hobby at around 2010 they still were state of the art. Now it's 2019 and I'd say they got outpowered by some competitors. Their pigments are still super fine and look in scale on a 1/25 car, but it's their fragility that makes them hard to work with. Masking on them is a nightmare like is handling the model in general. But I'm a sustainability guy and so I'll use the stash I have of them until they're gone. Think I will opt for Creos or MRP for replacing them. Time will tell.
Never heard of Tru-Color to be honest. In the world of paints the Atlantic seems to be a hard border, even in the time of the interwebs. And that counts for both directions.
