Revell 1/72 F-102A - a real oldie

This is one that was given to me a couple of years ago by a friend. This, and several other kits, were his son's who had passed away.

It has like 25 parts.

Simple enough, right? No cockpit detail except for ol' Charlie here.

It did go together pretty well and no real need to putty up stuff. Happy about that.

Zippin' right along until it came to painting the anti-glare panels on the top of the inlets. I've done/redone those more times than I can count at this point. Wah, wah.....I'll get you soon enough my little pretty!

One good point about that kit is it is of the first generation small vertical fin and small speedbrake F-102A's, Lyle. I think it is the only model of that version.

I did not know that. Interesting. Not a bad kit.

I believe I built one of those too way back when. Nice work Lyle! Thanks for the memories!

I’m petty sure that I built one of those as well... in a different boxing as I vaguely recall...

Oh yes, I think I had this as well!

Always difficult for me to see which one of the delta winged planes are the Dart and which is the Dagger.. :hmm:

I think the F-102 had a more pointy tail!

Great to see this going too Lyle!

It is an old one, that’s for sure. Working on it I have come to like the lines of this old gal.

The shape of the vertical tail, and the location of the intakes relative to the cockpit are the main ways to tell the difference between the two types. Plus the 102 looks a bit beefier while the 106 looks a bit more sleek overall.

Easy! The F-102A is a stumpy little thing with fat cheeks and a big butt, and the F-106 is the sexiest of them all!

I spent many hours watching 106's come and go at Fresno Air Terminal, one of the benefits of being a charter pilot. Carlos' photo is of a Fresno Air Guard 106.
