Go for it, you won't be disappointed!

Eduard will probably soon, after X-mas, start to produce Profipack and Weekend editions. This Tora Tora Tora has two equaling Profipack kits, hence quite pricy.

Finally painting started.

Was supposed to happen already yesterday, but due to some slower progress with masking + the decal testing, there was no time over. But now the Zero has got a layer of primer with my absolute favorite primer, MRP's Fine Surface Primer.

As said, masking took longer than planned

And here we go
Image

I had hardly been able to paint the one of the wings, when my Badger Krom started to spit paint!
:headbang:
I had two options here, either stop priming and clean it up or take another airbrush and continue the work. I decided for the latter and digged out my old warrior Harder & Steebeck Evolution, to continue the priming work. For a minute or two it sprayed very well. As a matter of fact, so well that I will start to use it again along my Badger. But after those few minutes, it also started to spit..

:headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

I believe I never cleaned it up properly after the last session with it, before putting it away on the shelf. I have, since a long time, used only my Badger to all airbrushing.

Image

So, after cleaning up the guns, time to continue spraying. This time, just to be on the safe side, I added a few drops of Mr Color Leveling Thinner in the MRP's Primer. And that, in combination with a crystal clean Badger, made the rest of the spraying session a true joy!

Next paintwork will be the camo.

Of course

Mr Paint will release soon, on the 24th of December their set of paints for this Eduard kit. Unfortunately too late for my build but good to know if I will still build the second Zero kit that came in Eduards "Tora Tora Tora" edition.

Image

Otherwise I will build another version, very keen on the same Zero camo that Carlos is working on. The beautiful green one! Because then Mr Paint has a huge selection of suitable IJAAF/IJANAF colors :-)

Image

But for this build, it will be a mix of Mission Models colors to replicate the "IJNAF J3 SP Olive Gray".
Stay tuned, more to come!

I use exactly the instructions Eduard gives regarding the main camo color.

70% of MMP 107 and 30% of MMP 056

This build is a speed build and I have certainly cut some corners here.

Especially with the seams, they are not all properly taken care of. There are some smaller gaps that I would normally fix and fill. Also sanding and buffing has not been up to 100%, have skipped a little bit here and there.

The focus has been and will is, to finalise one build in 2021, not necessarily with a high end quality, as most of SPAM builders nowadays do here.

But a quality I'm fine with and can live with.
If and when the next Zero will be built, that might then be a different story.

----

I shot the "camo" yesterday night. Was not really a walk in the park, struggled a little bit with the Mission Models paint. Either with the pressure in the airbrush or then with the thinning or the distance etc.

This is not the case at all when working with MRP or Mr. Colors. Therefore this session caused some cursing back and forth.

But I'm happy with the result nevertheless. However, before starting highlighting details, panels etc and of course begin with decalwork, I need to shoot on a glossy clear coat. This because the surface is mega flat, not a good base for any oil washes.

As Mission Models are water based acrylics and I have only MRP's gloss coat, which again is a laquer based acrylic..
I need to google to check if the combination is a Go-Go or a No-Go.

:hmm:
