Rio Red and ?

Post by LyleW »

I have always thought the '57 Chevy was a cool looking car. Whilst awaiting the Molotow to dry on some truck parts and whilst awaiting masks and some PE (gasp) for the Williams-Brothers C-46, I dug this one out.

It is the Revell Monogram kit last copyrighted in 1995. So, it is old and there is a fair amount of flash to clean up. So, a few sessions with a X-Acto knifee, some sanding sticks, old socks and a few sasparillas, that was tackled.

Lovely red plastic, so you don't have to paint it! Very thoughtful of them.

This will be a red, Rio Red. I've ordered it from MCW and now eagerly await the arrival of same.

Image

Told ya it was red. Now for the important part. All you car junkies and you know who you are, white fin accents or the "aluminum/silver" accents?

"Silver"

Go ahead, I'll wait.. oh, white roof or red ?

Que "Jeopardy" theme.....

The engine is coming along. Wont be fiddled with much at all, if any. Stock version and all that.

Primed the body and then cleaned up the flash and some mysterious emblems by the windshield posts. None of the pics I've looked at have that, so I sanded them off. Now I get to re-prime the body.

That is about it for now. I did try something on the fanbelt/pulley piece made a mask - painted the belt portion and then stuck the mask over the pulley and painted that. Seems to work okay. Sorry you can't see it as well as I can.

Anyway, that is about it for this episode of "Misadventures in Scale Modeling" or something like that.

I kinda like the white roof better… :hmm:

But man, that is one beautiful RED!

Sweet work so far Lyle! Engine looks rad! Did you fire it up and run it? :giggles: I also love the red, brilliant color. My personal choice is the white roof/ silver fin accents. Especially with the gold lettering on the side.

Keep it coming Lyle!

If you’re going straight up stock, go white roof and white accents. Oh yeah, throw in whitewalls and skirts. :lashed:

Either way, stock or hot rod, white roof you can’t go wrong.

Either trim accent is good for stock. White roof. Fender badges are accurate for fuel injection engines.

Okay, white roof it is, white trim. No fender skirts, though. I don’t think they are included.

Makes sense, now, on the fender badger. Thanks!

I know the AMT ‘57 Chevy kit has them. Check your Hobby Lobby. The AMT kit has the blue Chevy on box cover. Or ask if anyone has skirts they can part with.

Ain't a gonna spend money on whitewalls...yet. I had a great idea! Yeah, you know where this is going.

I cut the whitewalls out of whte decal paper. Worked great. Except You could not place them without them balling up. Almost had one in place and POOF.

So, I simply left it on the backer paper and used CA to glue it to the wheel.

What do you think?

I don't know...a trip to HL is a major expense what with the price of gas. It is 15-20 miles, each way. Found some on the entry net, but they want 15 bucks for them.
