Two Ships Done by the Duke in April

Post by Duke Maddog »

To be honest, one's a ship, the other is a boat..

My British Navy took delivery of this destroyer HMS Kelly. This is an ancient Matchbox kit built straight out of the box:

My US Navy took delivery of the boat. This is the Airfix Higgins Boat, brand new tooling:

Yes, the Higgins Boat is 1/72 scale...

These are two of the six models I finished today. The others can be seen in the Aircraft and Armor Forums.

They look good Mark. Those are nice additions to your fleet.

neat subjects and well done. The Higgins boat looks interesting.

Thank you Carlos! Now that the Higgins boat is done, it's time to get the two LCMs finished too. And I just found a third one! :headslap:

I also want to start the three other motor torpedo boats I have in the stash: PT-109; S-100 S-Boot, and the Vosper Perkasa boat to go with my Swift boat and RAF Rescue Launch.

Thank you Lyle! That Higgins Boat is a great kit! New tooling at Airfix makes this an amazingly fun and easy model to build.

Great work Mark!

Here's a trivia question for ya. Where were Higgins boats designed and built?

Thank you Mike! If I recall my research correctly, I'd say New Orleans, LA.

Yep! And that's why the National WW2 Museum is there.

Excellent! I did remember something! :yahoo: Someday I hope to go to that museum. Maybe I can convince my two nephews who took me to the USS Alabama to take me there
