Richard Petty 1969 Ford Torino

Post by BlackSheep214 »

He's done in 1969 Daytona 500 version.

A great kit but something seems off with the chassis or backside rim pieces. A love the car but I am disappointed with how it came together at the last 2 steps. I couldn't figure it out why that's so.

You can see how the rear tires is a tight fit underneath the fenders - or sort of under the fenders. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

I’ve had ,a couple that did the same thing. Jus didn’t sit right. But, this looks really good. An iconic livery.

Thank you for the kind words.

The more I'm looking at the model, the more I'm suspecting an ommission in the instruction guide. I'm thinking they left out a simple notation to trim the rear wheel opening to accomdate the racing tires if doing a racer version. Then again, it didn't line up correctly to the opening too prior to installing the tires. Either the chassis is on the short side and/or the rear wheel opening should have made a note to cut open when doing racer version.

I'd love to see Joe (mustang) do this one as a racer version and hear his findings. Maybe he might find something i didnt see.

After looking more I think the rears look about right but the front is sitting high and the wheels are poking out a bit

Believe me... the rear tires were a struggle to put under the wheel fenders. The front ones is a mess. I know they’re sticking out but not under the wheel fenders. I’m really convinced the chassis is the main issue for the ill fit. Maybe the wheel backs too.

I’ve came very close to putting a hammer to it. Not happy with the outcome.
Maybe after my vacation, I’ll try and fix it.

If you take a hammer to it, it'll look like the cars from last weekends race. :headslap:
