Just wanted to share this quick story with those who may appreciate it more than those in my usual circle of real life.

I was sitting outside reading my Kindle on Saturday afternoon, enjoying Summer before it is gone, and I hear the distinctive roar of a military jet approaching from the south east. I am sure a more experienced ear could ID what it was by sight unseen, but that isn't me.

So I start staring at the sky waiting for it to come over, and to my surprise, and great delight, it was the highly unique profile of an A10. Looked like it flew to the lake a few miles away and banked north.

Never thought I'd see one in the wild, now I can check something off the bucket list.

Good for you! Yeah, I could have ID’d it by the sound only, having spent many impressionable years in the company of A-10’s regularly. Those twin turbofans are quite unique in their sound signature.

Growing up the Connecticut ANG flew them for many years. Definitely have a unique sound that is unmistakable

Yeah I think I would have ID'd them as well. A-10's rock!

Of course the real question we all want to know is, What were you reading on your Kindle?

I miss the days we hear B-52s and KC-135s flying overhead when Griffiss AFB was still active.

Speaking of Griffiss AFB, I'm currently watching Trainwreck - Woodstock '99 on Netflix. I remember following the events that unfolded to the end. Never knew security told concert goers they're not allowed to bring in food or water. They actually confiscated them at the gate entrance to the grounds. Wow...

Seen them a couple of times at airshow at McGuire AFB in NJ, very cool.

That's cool - not sure I've ever seen one flying but I did see one when the first came out at McLellan AFB way back in the 70s along with a C5 Galaxy during an open house. Both of them stuck in my head - so impressive.

I doubt anyone would recognize it, but it was Hell's Foundations Quiver by David Weber.

I didn't even know the Wisconsin ANG had Warthogs, but apparently they still do. I can't think of what it was doing over in this neck of the woods, unless it was on display in Milwaukee for their air and water show.

Though God knows the city could use all the help it can get with some counterinsurgency operations.

Back in the day as a kid, I lived in San Antonio. This was back when Kelly AFB was still a military base and had all kinds of C-5's flying. They still do plus C-17, F/A-18E/F, and F-16's. It belongs to Boeing now.
