In the novel the squadron was equipped Hurricanes. But I guess since there are so few airworthy Hurricanes, they went with Spitfires for the miniseries.
When I built a Special Hobby Hurricane it was in 85 Squadron markings. In doing research on that I think I read that no Spitfires were sent to France, they were held back for the defense of Britain.

Ironically though, this is probably one of those instances where hand-brushing would've yielded more accurate results as it pertains to the camo demarcation. Free-handing a two-tone scheme in 1/72 scale is difficult since the demarcation becomes pretty sharp the smaller your model gets. But it looks like you've got the hang of it!
Thanks for the tips John - I whole-heartedly agree. I really struggled to get a proper demarcation between the two colours under the tail as the area was far too small - certainly I think masking the camo in this scale would have yielded better results.

But as you said, as a first effort I'm pretty pleased with it. I have an F-35B I might do next, certainly easier practice with the single overall base colour.

Not too bad for my first go at airbrushing and freehand camo.
